Topping out ceremony for the new kindergarten at Liedaga Street 6
On Thursday, 8 December, leaders of Liepāja State City Council attended the symbolic topping out ceremony and congratulated the builders of the new kindergarten at Liedaga Street 6. The building is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2023.
As per the tradition, a wreath of evergreens was hoisted on the ridge of the roof of the new preschool building.
“The topping out ceremony is always a special moment during the construction – with the erection of the rafters, the building has now acquired its general shape. Residents of Liepāja can now visibly appreciate how construction blueprints are turning into new, attractive, well though-out and comfortable environment for our children. I have always believed that the environment shapes the people and vice versa. Working together with the builders, we are currently redefining the quality of education establishments and the environment for the development of our children. Obviously, this is not only about the building – this is an investment into the growth and future of the young residents of Liepāja,” says Gunārs Ansiņš, Chairman of Liepāja State City Council.
Representatives of the construction company Merks presented the progress of work at the construction site and explained the construction process and the upcoming steps to the members of the Liepāja State City Council and Liepāja Education Board, as well as the press.
“During this festive period, we are celebrating another important event – the topping out ceremony for a new kindergarten in Liepāja. Traditionally, topping out marks an important milestone in the construction process when the structure reaches its highest point and acquires its general shape,” says Toms Bišmeistars, project manager at SIA Merks. “The work is progressing according to the schedule and the frame of the building has now been completed. Work is currently taking place on the construction of the facade and roof and it is planned to complete the external envelope of the building and install doors and windows by the end of the year. Thus, the building will become weatherproofed and we will be able to fully focus on finishing the interior. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the successful cooperation to the clients, the design and construction supervision teams, as well as members of the Merks team who worked on the project”.
As reported earlier, the new preschool education establishment will host facilities for eight groups or 144 children. The new kindergarten building will feature two floors with the total area of 1,880 square metres. The core of the building will be a playroom on the first floor level created as a two-floor open space and also serving as an event hall. The outdoor spaces of the kindergarten will include amenities like various play areas and bicycle and car parking.
The project “Construction of Preschool Education Establishment Building at Liedaga Street 6 in Liepāja” is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2023.
To ensure comfortable access to the new kindergarten, the Dzintaru Street is being extended and a new street connecting Liedaga and Dzintaru streets is being built on the west side of the land plot, while a pedestrian/cycle path will be built on the east side of the building.
