The construction process of “Orkla Biscuit Production” new biscuit and wafer factory has begun

On November 4, 2020 the Chairman of the Board of “Orkla Biscuit Production” Toms Didrihsons together with the Minister for Economics of the Republic of Latvia Jānis Vitenbergs, the chair-man of Ādaži municipality Māris Sprindžuks and Member of the Board and Construction Direc-tor of “Merks” Andris Bišmeistars started the construction process of the new biscuit and wafer factory in Ādaži. During upcoming days, the construction site will be finalized and the prepara-tion work to lay foundations for the production facility will start.

The new plant will specialize only in the production of biscuits and wafers and will be the largest of its kind in the Baltic States and Scandinavia. In addition to construction, significant investments in new equipment and production lines will follow, creating the largest investments in the Latvian food production sector in recent years, which will create about 250 new jobs. In total, about 75% of the products produced at “Orkla Biscuit Production” will be exported. It is planned that the new plant will start operating in 2022.

On September 25 the construction company “Merks was selected as the builder of the new “Orkla Biscuit Production” biscuit and wafer factory. The total contract amount is almost 32 million euros and it foresee the construction of a new biscuit and wafer factory in Ādaži.
