“Merks” signs a contract to build “Laima” factory

Construction company “Merks” has signed a contract with SIA “Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Latvija” for the construction of a new “Laima” factory in Ādaži, Laimas Street 6. The total amount of the contract is EUR 8.9 million and construction will start in April this year.

“We are very pleased to sign this contract, because the aim of “Merks” is to build an environment for development – for growth of businesses, cities and our country, and this project incorporates it all. The fact that an international company, after acquiring business in Latvia, invests significant resources in the establishment of a new factory, shows both – the successful growth of the company and the attractiveness of our country and Ādaži region for investments,” says Andris Bišmeistars, Board Member and Construction Director of “Merks”. “We are happy to become partners of this project, and with “Merks’s” team of professionals we will guarantee its implementation in the highest quality.” In the announced tender, which was aimed at selecting a contractor for the construction of the new “Laima” factory, 12 bids were submitted both from the leading Latvian construction companies and international companies, and, after careful consideration, “Merks” was selected as the builder of the factory. It is expected that the new “Laima” factory will launch in 2020. In the purchased land plot in Ādaži, access roads and infrastructure connections have already been set up, and the street of the factory has been named after Laima.

“In 2017, when we announced that a new “Laima” factory will be built in Latvia, we started a remarkable project with an outstanding goal of creating a new home for our “Laima” to provide sustainable competitiveness and further growth. Today, signing a construction contract, we are one step closer to making “Laima” sweets in a modern and multifunctional factory, which “Laima” has long deserved,” emphasizes Toms Didrihsons, Chairman of the Board of “Orkla Latvija”.
